Bennett & Game Recruitment are delighted to be partnering with a respected multi-disciplinary transport planning and infrastructure consultancy as they continue their strategic expansion across their Birmingham, Fleet, and Gateshead offices. Operating as a true “one-stop” development transport solution, our client supports a diverse portfolio of public and private sector clients—including nationally recognised commercial developers—delivering high-quality highways, transport planning, drainage, and environmental engineering services across the UK.

Due to continued growth, they are seeking a Highway Design Engineer or Senior Highway Design Engineer to join their established team. This is an excellent opportunity to work on a broad range of S278 and S38 schemes, contribute to complex multi-office projects, and play an integral role in the delivery of sustainable transport infrastructure.

Role Responsibilities

• Prepare and deliver highway design packages within agreed timescales and budgets.

• Plan and manage project resources to ensure efficient team utilisation.

• Support senior leadership on multi-office and multidisciplinary project delivery.

• Ensure compliance with statutory design standards and relevant authority guidance.

• Produce, check, and approve technical drawings, reports, and design information.

• Work in accordance with MCHW, DMRB, and local authority design standards.

• Promote continuous improvement and bring forward innovative engineering solutions.

• Maintain strong awareness of Health & Safety and CDM regulations, driving proactive risk management.

Requirements

• Demonstrable experience delivering Section 278 and Section 38 highway design schemes.

• Strong technical background across varied highway design environments.

• Proven project management capability with a track record of on-time, on-budget delivery.

• Experience mentoring junior team members and supporting technical development.

• In-depth knowledge of DMRB and other relevant design standards.

• Experience preparing and managing contract documentation for highway projects.

• Proficiency with Civils 3D and Causeway Flow / PDS for highways and drainage design.

• Excellent communication skills and confidence in client liaison.
